Hey there happy reader!
Being an indie author has its challenges. It turns out that writing the books is the easy part – who would have guessed that! The truly difficult thing about doing this on “your own” is getting the word out about your work. It turns out that the most efficient way to do that is through the various social media channels available to all of us with a stroke of the keyboard.

Before I embarked on this journey, I had no social media presence at all.
My attitude was basically that if I hadn’t spoken to a person in the past thirty years, why contact them now? But I’ve come to understand that this crazy world of internet communication is a necessary tool if you want to have anyone find your books in the vast expanse of the world wide web.
All this to say, that when I switched social media teams recently, there were lots of suggestions of things that I needed to do for a more updated presence.

Now, let me assure you that I do all my own writing for any post you see attached to my name, and that will never change. I won’t ever be represented by words that are not mine. But this new team believes in more TikTok and less Facebook, more reels and stories on Instagram and less static picture posts.
And not only that.
They hated the cover I had ready to go for my new romantic suspense novel, “Question Everything.” I was not happy to hear it, but I had to keep an open mind and accept criticism where necessary and make a change.
The result might just be one of the most dynamic book covers I’ve ever had for one of my novels. Here it is…

What do you think? Dark and mysterious with a little bit of foreboding for good measure? I hope you like it as much as I do…
I also hope that you’ll follow me on TikTok. I’ve been working hard, trying to make engaging videos on a variety of topics related to indie publishing. By far, my most successful one so far had to do with why I defend “Fifty Shades of Grey” as a game-changer for the romance industry. Check out my argument on TikTok. You can find me there @htcohen. I’m going to keep pushing the boundaries of my comfort zone and see where it leads me!
I hope that you’re taking some time out for yourself during this very hot beginning of August. I think it’s a fine time to go to an airconditioned movie theater and sit in the cool darkness for a bit. “It Ends With Us” comes out tomorrow, and I plan to buy a large popcorn and enjoy an afternoon of escape. Join me!
As always, let me know what you think!
xoxo,
Hilari
