Hey there happy reader,
If you’ve been following along with me over the last few years, you know how much I love Diana Gabaldon’s historical series, “Outlander.”

I’ve read through the series multiple times and am eagerly awaiting the final chapter, book ten.
I am also a fan of the television show, despite the differences in storytelling. The plotline of the show didn’t always follow the books as closely as many fans would have liked, but I was okay with that.
For me, I just enjoyed the visuals of the Scottish Highlands and the “Ridge,” the Frasers’ home in North Carolina during the American Revolution. The beautiful landscapes, the costumes, and the attention to detail, including the haunting theme music which was performed differently each season. The beautiful music at the beginning of the episode kept me coming back for more.
When the finale started and that season one version of the theme song played, I was already done for! But OMG, the ending. It was everything.

Without giving anything away for anyone who still would like to watch but hasn’t had the time, I thought it was perfect.
The writers closed the loop on so many unanswered questions. The biggest mystery all along was about Jamie’s ghost waiting outside of Claire’s window in the very first episode. I wish I was a fly on the wall in the writer’s room as they grappled with how to solve that mystery!
But even more impressive was the extra scene that played after the credits when Diana herself made a cameo appearance. The “easter eggs” – little nods to the details of the story – the blue vase, the forget-me-nots, the amber on the desk, Claire’s journal… it all came to life if you watched carefully enough. Every one of the actors in that scene were cast and crew members, a fitting tribute to the people who made the entire show possible.
As a writer, I can only imagine the enormous feeling of satisfaction with that incredibly thoughtful and fitting ending to a much-beloved series. Well done!

(Here’s “herself”— DG — at a book signing in the show’s finale)
I wonder if Diana is feeling the pressure now. The television series based on her story had its ending, but she’s still to reveal her version of how it all closes when she publishes book ten — “A Blessing For A Warrior Going Out.”
I am waiting for it with bated breath…
I hope that it’s a beautiful day wherever you may be, but if not, cozy up on the couch and stream that wonderful finale of “Outlander.” You won’t be sorry!
As always, let me know what you think!
xoxo,
Hilari
PS Happy Memorial Day!
